SUBJECT: GROOMING AND PERSONAL BOUNDARIES TRAINING FOR SCHOOL STAFF – ACT 89

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has published the training module supporting the requirements enacted by 2025 Wisconsin Act 89, which addresses appropriate communication with pupils. Wisconsin State Statute requires each school board, governing body of a private school, and governing board of a charter school to provide its employees training in identifying, preventing, and reporting grooming and professional boundary violations.

All district staff are required to complete this training during the 2026-27 school year, and annually thereafter. Districts may use the DPI’s training module or another training that satisfies the requirement.

• The training takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
• The DPI strongly recommends districts to have individuals who regularly spend time in school buildings – including contractors, vendors, volunteer coaches, mentors, and others – complete the training as well. Once you have registered and created your account and confirmed your account. Sign in and find your training in the course catalog. Complete the following training:

GROOMING AND PERSONAL BOUNDARIES TRAINING FOR SCHOOL STAFF – ACT 89 the end of the webcast, participants will be able to download your completion certificate. After completion of the online training, please send a copy of your downloaded completion form to: Theresa Lauer or  Elena Seid

This webcast training is available to be watched at any time.
